The Kachemak Bay Chapter of Alaska State Employees Association is offering a scholarship in the amount of $750 to a graduating senior from the Kachemak Bay area. Contact Carla at 235-8191 or a school counselor. Deadline is April 19.

American Legion Auxiliary offers a $500 scholarship award for high school seniors (B-C student), Auxiliary Unit 16 scholarship, deadline is April 1. Western District American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship, $500-$1,000. For continuing students who are members of the Legion family. Due March. 31. Check for applications at school counselors’ offices and at American Legion Post 16. The Homer Foundation announced the 2013 scholarship applications now available: Alain and Daniel Rieser Scholarship for foreign language study/travel; Homer Community Science Scholarship supporting post-secondary education in the life sciences; Health Care Providers Scholarship supporting students serious in pursuing a career in healthcare; Drew Scalzi Memorial Maritime Scholarship supporting students of fishing families and/or students wishing to pursue a career in Alaska’s maritime industry; Diane Wambach “Shoot for the Stars” Scholarship supporting education and training for young people with a plan to pursue their dream; Kachemak Bay Medical Clinic Scholarship supporting students with outstanding academic achievements and a strong work ethic; Beluga Tail/Tale Writing Scholarships that provide awards in both creative and nonfiction writing. Applications may be requested via mail, phone or email, picked up at the Homer Foundation or the Homer High School Counselor’s office or downloaded from the foundation’s web site at www.homerfund.org, click on FORMS. Deadline is 4 p.m., April 18. Homer Marine Trades Association is sponsoring a scholarship for students planning to attend or registered at a qualified trade or technical school. Applications are available from school counselors or online at www.homermarinetrades.com. Deadline is April 15.

The International Pacific Halibut Commission funds merit scholarships to support university, technical college and other post-secondary education. Generally, a single scholarship valued at $2,000 per year will be awarded. Contact Eva Luna at (206) 634-1838, ext. 7661, or Bruce Leaman, ext. 7672. The Kachemak Board of Realtors will award three $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school students from the Homer, Anchor Point and Ninilchik areas with plans to pursue career training in a vocation-technical field or a two- or four-year college degree. The application packet must include a short essay outlining future goals and career plans, school activities, awards and achievements, employment, community service, interests and hobbies; two letters of recommendation; and an official high school transcript. KBEA (Kenai Borough Employees Association) Scholarship Committee is accepting applications for four $500 scholarships. Applications are available from high school counselors or at www.borough.kenai.ak.us. Deadline is March 29. They can be mailed or dropped off at the Kenai Peninsula Borough, KBEA Scholarship Committee, 144 N. Binkley St., Soldotna, AK 99669.
