School board to offer remote testimony in 2019

The new year is bringing a new feature to Kenai Peninsula Borough School District meetings.

Starting at the Jan. 14, 2019 6 p.m. Board of Education meeting, the public in Homer and Seward will be able to remotely submit public testimony.

Seward Elementary School and Homer Middle School will be open during school board meetings for public testimony via video, according to a release from the district.

Those interested in testifying are required to sign up by 3 p.m. the Friday before the meeting by calling or emailing Debbie Tressler at 907-714-8836 or dtressler@kpbsd.k12.ak.us.

“If no one signs up in advance for video testimony, remote participation will be canceled in that location,” the release states.

There are four opportunities during a meeting to address the board — during public presentations on non-agenda items, hearing of delegations, public comments on action items and public presentations on any topic.

“The Kenai Peninsula Borough School Board welcomes and values public comment on agenda and non-agenda items,” the release states.

School board meetings are held in assembly chambers at the Kenai Peninsula Borough building. Twice each year the board travels to either Seward or Homer for a meeting.
