April 30: Middle school borough band-choir, Soldotna Middle School, all day event.

Pre-Kindergarden Title I Assessments

Children who will be four years old by Sept. 1 have an opportunity to attend pre-kindergarten classes at their local area school in the fall. To qualify, parents and guardians must:

1. Contact their local area school to scheule a Pre-K assessment;

2. Complete a Pre-K application available at the school office or on the web at http://bit/ly/PreKapplications;

3. Return the application to your neighborhood school office during school hours and schedule your child’s assessment prior to the date for your neighborhood school.

May 9: Chapman, 235-8671;

May 16: Paul Banks Elementary, 226-1801.

Big Fireweed (grades 3-6)

April 26: Guest speaker, game biologist Jason Herreman.

Homer High School

Today: Girls varsity softball, Kenai Central High School.

April 26: Girls, boys varsity soccer at Houston, 4 and 6 p.m.

April 27: Girls, boys varsity soccer at Wasilla, noon and 2 p.m.

April 29: Principal candidate interviews.

Homer Middle School

April 26 and April 29: Beach data collection field trip days, grade 7. Students need lunch, appropriate clothing.

April 27: Track at Nikiski Invite, 10 a.m.-noon.

April 30: Mass band at Soldotna High School.

May 3-4: Borough track meet, hosted by Skyview and Nikiski.

McNeil Canyon Elementary School

Today: Site council, 3:30 p.m.
