Swim/dive meet huge success

More than 250 athletes, coaches and parents filled the Homer High School pool area the last weekend in October for the Regions III Swim/Dive meet.

I had the privilege to watch and be part of this meet. At times, the races were so exciting and records broken, that I had an inkling of what it must feel like at the Olympics.

A group of parents, coaches and school personnel met for the last month and a half prior to the meet to plan, organize and sort out details making this all come together. I want to extend a huge thank you to the community of Homer for being willing to come and participate even though their own athletes were gone from high school.

It was amazing to see the extent of the support given by our community.  Hospitality, timing, officiating, judging, swim shop, gatekeeping, concessions, coffee cart, balloons and cleanup all were done by volunteers over the weekend, too numerous to mention, you know who you are. Thank you for all of your support and efforts made to make this a wonderful experience for everyone involved.

I’m so proud of our athletes.
