Juneau wins state hockey tournament
Juneau won the championship game 5-1 Monday against the Anchorage Hockey Association Comets in the four-day 10U Tier III State Tournament at Kevin Bell Ice Arena. Twelve teams from Homer, Juneau, Kenai, Palmer, the Matanuska-Susitna River Valleys, Anchorage and Fairbanks competed in the three-day tournament last weekend. Usually held the week after the Homer Winter King Tournament, because of the tournament postponed after ice clogged the Homer Harbor, the fishing and hockey tournaments wound up on the same weekend, bringing an influx of visitors to town.
