As I follow the media coverage of the proposed U.S. intervention in the Middle East, I can’t help but remember back to the run-up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003. At this time, debate filled the news — should we or should we not invade Iraq? Is this right or wrong?
Today, things are different. Instead of debating whether or not the U.S. should drop bombs on the Middle East, the media coverage seems to ask only one question: Will President Obama’s proposed course of action work? Debate over if U.S. military involvement is right or wrong is largely absent. No one seems to question the ethics of yet another war in the region.
What has changed in the last 11 years?
