Voznesenka school was waiting on Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly approval for an expansion to better fit its students and teachers. The assembly had on its agenda an ordinance to buy two acres of land adjacent to the existing school which would be used for expansion. The school at this point was well over its 100 student capacity, according to the assembly.

Sales tax was before city voters in the form or two propositions placed on the Oct. 6 election ballot. The combined proposals made up a one-percent increase in taxes the city wanted to pay for rebuilding streets in Homer and helping pay off the debt on city sewer improvements. The tax was expected to raise $600,000 to $650,000 a year.

50 years ago in the Homer News

Residents were gearing up for the Kenai Peninsula Borough election, for which there were three openings for three-year terms on the assembly, as well as an open seat for a two-year term and a seat for a one-year term. At the time of this edition, only one petition had been picked up, but no one had filed for a seat.
