Barbara Jean Mohn-Lewis

Barbara Jean Mohn-Lewis, age 68, died Feb. 27, 2018.

She went to be with the Lord at Scenic Mountain Medical Center in Big Spring, Texas after battling CHF, her family wrote. She had survived cancer 14 years ago, among many other challenges in life, including being blind most of her adult life.

She was born Feb. 21, 1950 in Onawa, Iowa to Harold and Joan Mohn. She graduated from Homer High School in Alaska, attended Green Valley College in Green Valley, Washington and received two associate degrees: one in occupational therapy, the other in general business.

She assisted in a brokerage firm in Port Angeles, Washington for several years. She moved to Big Spring, Texas in 2001 to be near family. She moved to Canterbury South Retirement Center and helped with many functions there, including managing the store.

She gave her full attention and dedication to any job she had in life. She became the caregiver for many while residing at Canterbury.

Her favorite memories were of the dances and dinners and special events. She enjoyed Wii bowling and was an avid reader.

She enjoyed attending the Big Spring Symphony and Orchestra performances, as well as any other concerts or plays in the area.

She never let her blindness control her; in fact, she controlled it.

Preceding Barbara in death have been many loved ones including all her grandparents; her father, Harold Mohn; her step-dad, James Howard Sr.; brothers Chuck Mohn and Larry Mohn; and step-sister, Darla Howard.

She is survived by her mother, Joan Howard of Anchor Point; daughter Tania Hope Clucas of Fairbanks; siblings, Laura and husband Mike Hughes of Big Spring, Texas, Dennis Mohn of Anchor Point, and Twila Mayes of Big Spring, Texas; step-siblings Jimmy and wife Sandy Howard, Diane Price, and Rhonda Howard-Smith and husband Scott, all of Arizona; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Her friends from Canterbury South were like a second family to her, also.

In lieu of flowers, her wish was to have donations made to your favorite local Literacy Program or to American Cancer Society.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date at Canterbury South, Big Spring, Texas. Condolences may be sent to the family at 508 Highland Dr., Big Spring, TX 79720.
