Geraldine Marion Eskelson

July 10, 1933 – Dec. 26, 2017

Longtime Anchor Point resident, Geraldine Marion Eskelson died Dec. 26, 2017 at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer.

A service is planned at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 in Anchor Point at the Chapman School, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Anchor Point VFW.

She was born July 10, 1933 in Bozeman, Montana, to Glen and Marion Chambers. In May of 1965, Geraldine, or Geri as she was known to most, traveled to Alaska over the Alcan Highway with her husband and seven children, accompanied by their friends, the Jacobs. Upon their arrival, Geri and her family chose to settle in Anchor Point closer to their other friends, the Clendenens.

Geri was many things to her community and to her family. In addition to being a wife and mother, she worked for the Kenai Peninsula Borough in the food service industry, retiring in 1990 after 19 years. She was an avid bowler and attended many state bowling tournaments. Geri loved to fish, cook, can and garden. She was also voted Senior Citizen of the Year for Anchor Point.

Her family writes that she always had a place for them in her home; a bed to sleep in, an ear to listen and understand, someone to talk to and who was always good for free advice. She always tried to make sure that the family was happy, and she was always willing to help when needed. She instilled good work ethics, and kept her kids busy helping her smoke and can fish, and in the case of one of her sons, even building decks, barns, or cabins. In down times, she would always find a $20 bill to help with gas.

She loved her family, and always tried to get everyone together for a big family dinner when anyone came to visit. She also loved to travel, and one daughter took her to England and Scotland. She was amazed at the “Old” of the country but the beauty of the countryside.

Her grandchildren remember powdered sugar donuts, coffee, lemons, and watching western movies on Saturdays, but she is also fondly remembered by the Anchor Point community for her cinnamon rolls that she made every Friday while working at Chapman School.

Geri was preceded in death by her husband Coy James Eskelson, and son Matthew James Eskelson.

She is survived by her daughters, Coyleen (Ed) Able of Delta Junction, Barbara (Lyle) Dahl of Nikiski, Chyrell (Frank) Richardson of Anchor Point, Terri (Brad) Otto of Homer; and her sons, Michael (Cindy) Eskelson of Sutton, and M. Ross (Michelle) Eskelson of Palm Harbor, Florida. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren: Billeen, Stephanie, Ross, Colby, Lindsay, RyAnn, Kad, Chayla, Chaunna, Neil, Candace, Kyle, Courtney, Ali, Devon, Jonathan and Jasmine; plus 17 great-grandchildren.
