Longtime Kenai resident, Mark Yohman, 55, born March 16, 1958, lost his battle to cancer on June 7, 2013. Funeral services will not be held, but rather a celebration of Mark’s life will be planned before opening day of hunting season this fall.

“A giant of a man with a spirit as great as the Greatland and a heart even greater than his home state of Alaska, Mark sparked enthusiasm and breathed life wherever he walked,” his family said. A former U.S. Marine and carpenter, he built custom cabinets for finer homes on the Kenai Peninsula and worked commercial construction most of his life. Personally he assembled a tight camp of family and friends from Pennsylvania to Idaho and all the way to Alaska and was a resource for encouragement and support to all. An avid sportsman and skilled hunter, Mark enjoyed all that life could offer up and never left a man in need, be it for a cup of mud, a story about hunting or the shirt off his back.

“This kind, generous, mountain of a man will be sorely missed by all that he touched but even more so by his family and friends whom he adored,” his family said.

Mark leaves behind his son, Buzz Yohman, daughter-in-law, Wendi, and grandsons, Alex and Nicholas of Anchorage; his son, Clancey Yohman of Boise, Idaho; his sister, Beth Bowe, brother-in-law Satch, and nephew and niece, Tommy and Mary Hana of Homer; his brother, Paul Yohman of Pensacola, Fla.; his sister, Paula Yohman of Greensburg, Pa.; his sister, Kathy Yohman Vahaly, brother-in-law Rick, and niece Christine of Lancaster, Pa.; and a vast array of like men from all parts of the country, too many to be named.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Chic and Betty Yohman of Pleasant Unity, Pa., and his brother Jeff Yohman.

ln lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the charity of your choice to honor our military men and women.

Mark’s ashes will be scattered at all his favorite hunting spots.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel and Crematory. Please visit Mark’s obituary and online guestbook at AlaskanFuneral.com.
