Anchor Kings bring home tournament victories

The Anchor King wrestling team had another busy weekend of wrestling at the Popeye Wrestling Tournament.

Eight Anchor Kings participated in the Friday night folkstyle tournament. Wayne Newman and Luciano Fasulo both earned first place. Kyle Wells and Blake Newman earned third place in their age divisions. Other wrestlers who participated included Carter Woodhead, CJ Burns, Russell Nyvall, and Tyler Johnson.

Ten girls represented Anchor Kings in the all girls tournament. The girls tournament was freestyle wrestling. Rachel Munoz, Allison Wells, Heather Harrington, and Erica Harrington earned first place. Shelby Harrington, Alana Crane, Kya Stokes, Alysha Nyvall, and Mischelle Wells all took second place. Third place went to Aastah Hoyer.

Anchor Kings took 24 wrestlers to Saturday’s freestyle tournament. For many of the young wrestlers this was their first time on a mat for the year or first time ever wrestling, said Kimberly Johnson.

Four PreBantam wrestlers competed with Dawson Stokes and Martin Munoz both placing third. Avery Tressler and Zeke Magee made the coaches proud with their positive attitude and great sportsmanship, Johnson said. Of the four Bantam wrestlers Soren Hoyer was the only place holder taking third. Parker Overson, Aidan Crane, and Shane Harrington tried very hard and continue to learn moves and escapes that will lead to their success. Parker Overson earned his first win of the season with a 41-second pin. Carter Woodhead was the sole place winner in the Intermediate age division for the Anchor Kings, earning first place. This was a good comeback for Carter after not placing in Friday night’s folkstyle tournament.

Wayne Newman and Luciano Fasulo both placed first in the Cadet age division and Allison Wells took third place. Their were two Junior wresters with Tyler Johnson earning second place.

Last week’s wrestlers of the week were Avery Tressler, Alysha Nyvall, Ryan Veal, and Tyler Johnson. The move of the week was the half nelson. The fastest pin for the weekend for Anchor Kings went to Blake Newman with a 35-second pin over an opponent from Alaska Battle Cats Wrestling team.
