The visiting Kenai Central softball team swept a Northern Lights Conference doubleheader from Homer on Friday, winning by scores of 15-3 and 12-6.
The Kardinals moved to 4-2 in the league and 12-11 overall, while the Mariners dropped to 1-6 and 5-15.
The 15-3 game went 3 1-2 innings.
Lola McEwen was able to hold the Mariners to three runs on six hits with nine walks and a strikeout in four innings of work.
Kailey Stynsberg led Kenai at the plate by going 3 for 3 with three runs and two RBIs, while Seylor Tomrdle was 2 for 3 with a run and two RBIs.
Also, Kayani Whicker had four RBIs, EmmaLee Elordi scored twice, Avery Ellis scored twice, Blakeley Jorgensen scored twice, McEwen scored twice and Kennah Gregory had a pair of RBIs.
Becca Trowbridge pitched three innings for Homer and gave up 15 runs on eight hits while walking 11 and striking out six.
Jessica Plumlee was 2 for 2 with an RBI for Homer, while Amakah Stineff scored a pair of runs.
The 12-6 game went all seven innings. Homer led 6-2 heading to the fifth, but Kenai scored nine runs in the top of that inning to take control.
Gregory pitched the first 1 1-3 innings for Kenai, giving up three runs on no hits and six walks. Avery Ellis took over, going 5 2-3 innings and giving up three runs — two earned — on four hits while walking nine and striking out seven.
Jorgensen led the Kardinals at the plate by hitting for the cycle. She was 4 for 5 with three runs and three RBIs.
Also, Stynsberg was 3 for 5 with two runs and three RBIs, Ellis was 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI, and Avia Miller was 1 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs. Tomrdle added two runs.
Keagan Niebuhr worked 6 1-3 innings for Homer, giving up six runs — five earned — on 12 hits. Trowbridge gave up six runs on a hit in two-thirds of an inning.
Stineff had two RBIs for Homer, while Almalinda Norman and Piper Arno each scored two runs.
Soldotna was scheduled to play in Kodiak on Friday, but the Stars were late to arrive due to ferry delays. The Bears and Stars will play a 10 a.m. doubleheader Saturday, with both teams entering undefeated in the league.
