The visiting West Valley football team defeated Homer 38-6 last Friday in nonconference action.
West Valley is now 3-0 overall, while the Mariners are 1-2.
“We played tough and we were able to move the ball,” Homer head coach Justin Zank said. “We didn’t execute on a lot of plays, and there were a lot of missed assignments again.”
Zank said the game could have been closer, but the Mariners made big mistakes on offense, defense and special teams.
The highlight came when Jackson Snaric returned a fumble over 90 yards for Homer’s lone score.
Zank said quarterback Preston Stanislaw also was solid.
“I thought Preston played tough under a lot of duress,” Zank said.
Homer opens its Mid Alaska Conference schedule on Friday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. at Houston.
“Going to Houston is always tough,” Zank said. “It’s a hostile environment.”
