Alaska Recreation and Parks Association has given its 2012 Outstanding Organization to the Homer Hockey Association, the ARPA announced in a press release Sept. 16.
The award recognizes agencies, departments and organizations that make great contributions to their community and to the improvement of recreation in Alaska.
“HHA has established itself as a vital source of recreational opportunities by providing numerous programs for local youth and adults, taking on the daunting task of operating an ice rink and providing an economical boon during the winter months for local businesses,” the press release said.
HHA is only one of four hockey organizations in the United States that operates as a nonprofit entity and the only one in Alaska. It has more that 250 local members and numerous supporting sponsors.
