Homer nabs 13th at Rally in the Valley

Kenai Central finished sixth, Soldotna finished 10th and Homer finished 13th at the Rally in the Valley Softball Tournament, which finished Saturday.

The Kardinals lost to Sitka 9-2 and Ketchikan 11-2 on Saturday to finish the tourney at 3-3.

Against Sitka, the Wolves got to Lola McEwen for five runs — two earned — on two hits in two-thirds of an inning, and Kennah Gregory for four runs — three earned — on a hit in 1 1-3 innings.

Isabel Thomas was 2 for 2 with an RBI for the Kards, while Avia Miller was 2 for 2 with a run.

Against Ketchikan, McEwen yielded three runs in two-thirds of an inning, Blakeley Jorgensen gave up eight runs — five earned — in two innings, and Gregory pitched a scoreless one-third of an inning.

Seylor Tomrdle and Gregory had the runs for Kenai, while Gregory and Miller had the RBIs.

Soldotna finished 3-2-1 at the tournament after defeating Delta 15-4 and West 11-1 on Saturday.

Against Delta, SoHi put up 14 runs in the second inning. Isabelle Cruz gave up a run in two innings, while Kathryn DeBardelaben gave up three runs — two earned — in a inning.

At the plate, Bella Gares was 2 for 2 with three runs and two RBIs, Tatum Cooper was 2 for 2, Alyssa McDonald was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Cruz was 2 for 2 with two runs.

Also, Kacey Cunningham had two runs, DeBardelaben had two runs and two RBIs, Juliet Innes had two runs and two RBIs, and Joscelynn Carson was 2 for 2 with two runs and three RBIs.

Cruz held West to a run on five hits in three innings, walking none and striking out three.

Cooper was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, McDonald was 2 for 3, DeBardelaben was 2 for 3 with two runs, and Aliya Blough had two runs.

The Mariners defeated Redington 10-1 and Houston 3-2 on Saturday after losing their first four games of the tournament.

Against Redington, Keagan Niebuhr gave up an unearned run on a hit in three innings, striking out eight.

Niebuhr helped herself by going 2 for 2 with two runs and an RBI. Amakah Stineff added two runs.

Niebuhr came through again against Houston, giving up two runs — one earned — on two hits in three innings. She walked three and struck out five.

Lilly High led the Mariners at the plate by going 2 for 2 with a run.
