Homer volleyball splits weekend games against Seward, Nikiski

The Lady Mariners defeated Seward High School 3-0 in a Southcentral Conference volleyball matchup Friday in Homer.

The Mariners quickly silenced the Seahawks with set scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-9. The victory brought Homer to 5-1 in the conference and dropped Seward to 1-7.

On Saturday, the team traveled up the road to play the Nikiski Bulldogs on that team’s senior night. The Bulldogs came out victorious 3-1 in that conference matchup.

The scores were 12-25, 25-15, 25-19 and 27-25. Nikiski moved to 6-1 in the conference and 6-4 overall. Homer dropped to 5-2 in the conference.

The Mariners gave the Bulldogs reason to worry when they won the first set.

“During that first game, we were a little on the emotional side,” Nikiski head coach Stacey Segura said.

But the coach said her team rebounded quickly.

“I was a little nervous, but I knew the girls really wanted to play well for senior night to prove they could beat Homer,” Segura said.
