Homer wins over Seward; Voz falls to Nikiski

The Mariners picked themselves out of the Peninsula Conference basement with a rout of Seward on Friday night.

The Mariners won 40-6  on Seward’s home turf.

Sophomore quarterback Teddy Croft led the Homer charge with 3 for 6 passes completed for 88 yards and two touchdowns, and added 84 rushing yards and a touchdown.

“I knew if we didn’t take care of business, it would become a mundane season,” said Homer Coach Josh Fraley. “We had the opportunity to keep our season going, keep the dream alive.”

Senior running back Josh Fisk compiled 50 yards on seven carries, including a touchdown, and added a two-point conversion as well. Fisk also had a 27-yard receiving touchdown.

Boston Felde brought in two passes for 67 yards, including a touchdown.

Fisk and Alex Stephens came up big for Homer on defense with two picks apiece. Michael Swoboda and Felde each picked up an interception as well. Swoboda also scorched six kickoff returns for 220 total yards.

On Saturday, the Mariners face Juneau’s Thunder Mountain squad on Homer’s turf. The junior varsity game is at 11 a.m. The varsity game is at 2 p.m.

Nikiski 52, Voznesenka 0

Nikiski rolled to a 52-0 Peninsula Conference victory over Voznesenka on Saturday afternoon in Homer.

The Bulldogs racked up 400 yards of offense to 119 for Voznesenka, led by senior quarterback Cade Anderson’s 147 passing yards on 7-for-7 passing, including three touchdowns. Voznesenka’s quarterbacks found life difficult, combining for five interceptions, including two by Dylan Broussard. Nikit Anufriev completed 5 of 15 passes for 3 yards, while David Sanarov was 2 for 10 for 38 yards. Sanarov led the Cougars with 17 carries for 30 rushing yards.

With the win, Nikiski kept its lead at the top of the Peninsula Conference standings with a 2-0 record (3-1 overall), while Voznesenka dropped into sole possession of last place at 0-2 (0-3 overall).
