‘Miracle’ helps fund ice arena

The Homer Hockey Association invites the public to a showing of “Miracle,” the 2004 docudrama about the U.S. men’s hockey team and its battle for gold in the 1980 Winter Olympics.

The movie is rated PG, features Kurt Russell in the role of Coach Herb Brooks and shows at the Homer Theatre, 6:30 p.m., today. Admission is a suggested $5 donation, with proceeds supporting HHA’s “Don’t Let Our Rink Sink!” campaign benefiting the Kevin Bell Arena.

Fundraising also is being done through the crowdfunding site, TILT, with a target of $60,000. The effort has surpassed the $10,000 “tilt” level, the amount set to ensure the online campaign continues.

As of Monday morning, the site reflected $12,500 in donations. Other donations, including one from the Gomez Foundation, have pushed the total to $15,000, according to Jan Rumble, HHA-Kevin Bell Arena secretary.

“The TILT fundraising campaign is going well. We ‘tilted,’ but we have a ways to go to reach $60,000,” said Rumble.

“Spread the word about our campaign through Facebook, email and Twitter. Here is the link to our campaign: http://tilt.tc/cIPb.”
