Homer Nordic ski shines

at borough meet

The Homer High Nordic ski team competed in Borough Nordic Ski race at Lookout Mountain on Feb. 13. The race was a duathlon, which combines classic technique and skate technique into one race. At the halfway mark, the racers switch equipment, adding to the strategy and intrigue of the competition.

Homer boys Nordic ski team took the third place award and Homer girls team landed a second place trophy. Senior Rachel Ellert and Sarah Wolf represented varsity girls at the podium and sophomore Jacob Davis received a ninth place ribbon.

Freshmen Katie Davis and Katia Holmes both had fantastic races, receiving first and second place honors, respectively, for the JV girls. Homer JV boys cleaned up with Josh Wisner, Ben Kettle and Seamus Scholz on the podium.

The Mariners will go on to the regional competition in Valdez today and then finish the season the following weekend with the state competition scheduled for currently snowless Anchorage.
