Cross-country running

Sept. 17: Homer Spit Trials

 

• Runners from Homer, Voznesenka, Nikolaevsk, Port Graham, Nikiski, Kenai and Soldotna ran a rainy 5 kilometers from the Pier One Theatre to the base of the Spit.

 

• Homer boys dominated the race with six runners finishing in the top ten places. Runners Luciano Fasulo, Jordan Beachy, Jared Brant, and Jacob Davis coming in first through fourth, respectively. Fasulo finished with a time of 16:55.53, Beachy with a time of 17:02.56, Brant with a time of 17:06.78, and Davis with a time of 17:11.31. Charlie Menke came in eighth place with a time of 17:56.25, followed by Bill Rich in ninth with a time of 18:04.89.

 

• Seven of Homer’s girls finished in the top ten. Autumn Daigle came in first with a time of 19:18.53. Megan Pitzman came in fourth with a time of 19:35.67 followed by Audrey Rosencrans in fifth with a time of 19:41.27, Lauren Evarts in sixth with a time of 20:37.70, Haley Knott in seventh with a time of 20:42.09, Alex Moseley in eighth with a time of 20:46.78, and Katie Davis in ninth with a time of 21:05.02.

Sept 17: Homer vs. Nikiski

• The Mariners’ loss against Nikiski dropped Homer to 0-6 overall. While the team has a squad of talented players this year, a series of injured players — including starting quarterback Teddy Croft who has been out since the Homer vs. Juneau game on Sept. 3 — affected their fate for the season.

 

• Noah Fisk scores touchdown with a 37-yard run at 11:49 minutes in the fourth quarter.

 

• Homer gained a total of 150 rushing yards to Nikiski’s 306 rushing yards. Homer had 31 passing yards, while Nikiski had none.

 

• Fisk gained 123 out of Homer’s 150 rushing yards, followed by Jack Heimbold with 20, Jaime Rios with six, and Sean Love with four.

 

Swim and Dive

Sept. 16-17: Kenai Invitational:

Homer’s boys and girls swim and dive teams both took fifth place out of seven teams at the Kenai Invitational on Sept. 16-17. The Homer girls scored 20 points and the Homer boys scored 28 points.

 

Sept. 16: Dive

• Annalyn Brown placed third in the girls 1-meter dive event with a final score of 150.7.

 

• Spencer Warren placed fifth in the boys 1-meter dive with a final score of 146.25.

 

Sept. 17: Swim

• Alia Bales placed fourth in the girls 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:25.96, sixth in the girls 50-yard freestyle.

• Jakob Nelson came in third in the boys 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:12.54 and placed fourth in the boys 200-yard IM with a time of 2:34.12.

 

• Theodore Handley placed third in the boys 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.08, and also placed fourth in the boys 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.96.

 

• Solstice Kraszeski placed fifth in the girls 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:47.65.

 

• Iris Downey placed fifth in the girls 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:27.21.

 

• Kane Graham placed fourth in the boys 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:18.26.

 

• Elizabeth Love, Emilia Jacobson, Downey and Bales placed fifth in the girls 200-yard freestyle relay with a total time of 2:00.84.

 

• Downey, Jacobson, Kraszeski, and Bales placed fifth in the girls 400-yard freestyle relay with a total time of 4:57.98.

 

• Dory Hyram, Handley, Nelson and Graham placed third in the boys 400-yard freestyle relay with a total time of 4:31.36.

 

Volleyball

Homer volleyball beat the Lions in a Southcentral Conference game on Saturday, Sept. 17, bumping up its season record to 1-4. Saturday’s game came after losses to Grace and Seward.

Homer head voleyball coach Kristie Mastre said Friday’s game against Grace was the best game she has seen seen her team play.

“They were doing incredible things,” Mastre said. “I’m so proud of this team.”
