Upcoming events

Swim and dive hold the Homer Invite on Friday, Sept. 9 and Saturday, Sept. 10. Dive starts at 4 p.m. on Friday and swim begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Varsity volleyball travels to Kotzebue on Friday, Sept. 9.

Varsity cross-country running travels to Kodiak for a meet on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Voznesenka football plays Valdez on the Homer turf on Sept. 10 at 11 a.m.

Mariner football goes up against Seward on the Homer turf at 2 p.m.

Cross-country running

Aug. 27: Homer at Palmer Invite

• Homer claimed the Class 1-2-3A team titles at the Palmer Invite over the weekend.

• Homer’s girls team finished with 35 total points, gaining victory over formidable Grace Christian by one point.

• Megan Pitzman led the girls team with a time of 19:52 and a third place finish. Audrey Rosencrans finished sixth with a time of 20:02 and Autumn Daigle finished in ninth with a time of 20:38. Lauren Evarts finished a second short of the top 10 with a time of 20:42, claiming 11th place.

• Homer boys beat Grace Christian by 34 points.

• Four Homer boys placed in the top eight: Jacob Davis finished in fourth with a time of 16:48, Jordan Beachy finished fifth with a time of 16:56, Jared Brant finished sixth with a time of 16:59. Luciano Fasulo came in eighth with a time of 17:10.

Sept 3: Homer vs. Juneau

Final score: 26-8, Juneau

• Homer scored first, and then Juneau answered with a touchdown in the second quarter, tying the game 6-6. However, Juneau overtook Homer in the third and continued to score, ending the game in a 26-8 victory.

• Joe Ravin scored a touchdown with a 60-yard pass from Teddy Croft with 4:56 on the clock in the first quarter.

• Timmy Woo tackled Juneau player Lance Galletes-Fiagatusa for a safety with 6:07 on the clock in the fourth quarter.

• Croft led Homer with 79 rushing yards, followed by Sean Love with 24 and Jaime Rios with 22.

Sept 3: Voznesenka vs. Nikiski

Final score: 33-0, Nikiski

• Zasima Martushev led Voznesenka with 74 rushing yards, followed by Azary Reutov with 54 yards.
