The visiting Homer softball team split a pair of Northern Lights Conference games with Redington on Saturday.
The Mariners lost 24-22 and won 14-6 to move to 1-4 in the league and 3-8 overall.
In the 24-22 game, Redington led 12-11 entering the top of the fifth, but Homer went up 13-12. Redington scored seven times in the bottom of the fifth, but the Mariners answered with seven in the top of the sixth. Redington then scored five in the bottom of the sixth.
Keagan Niebuhr pitched all six innings for Homer, yielding 24 runs — 17 earned — on 12 hits.
At the plate, Amakah Stineff was 2 for 3 with three runs, Niebuhr had two runs, Almalinda Norman was 2 for 4 with three runs, Madisen Doynes was 3 for 4 with four runs and three RBIs, Stella Condon was 2 for 5 with three runs and two RBIs, Natalie Farren was 3 for 5 with two runs and three RBIs, Katie Hallam had four runs and Natalie Hinsberger was 3 for 5 with five RBIs.
In the 14-6 game, Niebuhr was able to hold the Huskies to six runs — two earned — on two hits in five innings.
Hinsberger was 2 for 2 with three runs and three RBIs, Stineff was 3 for 4 with two runs, Niebuhr was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Norman had two RBIs, Farren had two runs and Piper Arno had two runs.
Friday
Houston 10, Homer 3
The visiting Mariners took a Northern Lights Conference loss to the Hawks on Friday to fall to 0-3 in the league and 2-7 overall. The game went five innings.
Keagan Niebuhr pitched all five for the Mariners, with half of the runs being earned. Niebuhr gave up seven hits and walked six while striking out two.
Jessica Plumlee was 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, while Amanda Toci was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
Thursday
The host Moose notched a Northern Lights Conference sweep of the Mariners on Thursday.
Palmer won 25-2 and 17-15. Homer is 0-2 in the league and 2-6 overall.
In the 25-2 game, Palmer scored 15 runs in the first inning and 10 in the second inning. Ali Gall had the lone hit for Homer.
Keagan Niebuhr gave up 15 runs — nine earned — in 1 2-3 innings, Katie Hallam gave up six runs without getting an out, and Almalinda Norman gave up four runs — three earned — in one-third of an inning.
In the 17-15 game, Homer trailed 6-5 after the first inning, the game was tied at 12 after the second inning, and Palmer scored five in the third before Homer answered with three.
Niebuhr was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, while Gall had two runs and two RBIs, Jessica Plumlee had three runs and two RBIs, and Stella Condon had two runs and three RBIs. Piper Arno and Amakah Stineff added two runs.
Niebuhr went all three innings, giving up 17 runs, with just one being earned.
