Weekly sports highlights

Upcoming events:

Cross-country skiing: The Homer High School Nordic ski team will head to Seward this weekend for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Championships. They start at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10.

Girls Basketball: The Lady Mariners play Kotzebue at 6:30 p.m. today, Dillingham at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, and Edgecumbe at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, all at home.

Boys Basketball: The boys’ varsity team plays the same teams on the same day, but at 8 p.m., 8 p.m., and 4:30 p.m., respectively.

Basketball: Both the girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball teams battled their way down the court in Nikiski on Saturday, Feb. 3. The boys came out victorious in a narrow win over Nikiski 65-61, while the Lady Mariners fells 57-21.

Hockey: The Mariners came up just short of a shot at heading to the state championships this year when they lost to Wasilla in the semi-final game of the North Star Conference Championships on Friday in Soldotna. The final score was 4-2.
