Bonnie Jean “BJ” Michon

Bonnie Jean “BJ” Michon died at South Peninsula Hospital Long Term Care due to complicated health issues on March 20, 2019.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 28, at South Peninsula Hospital Long Term Care in Homer.

BJ was born Nov. 10, 1929 in Chadron, Nebraska, one of five children. All her children were born in different cities across Nebraska, the last two being twins. She moved to Homer with Charlie in 1994 when Bonnie and Jim invited them to move to Alaska with them so as not to leave them alone.

BJ enjoyed watching sports on tv or listening to them on radio. Her favorite being football, whether it was the NFL or college, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Her other hobbies/interests were fishing with Charlie, hand embroidery, playing all sorts of card games with family, playing catch and work -up (softball), board games, going on walks with her kids, and always was encouraging us to hear our own drummer. She liked doing puzzles of all sorts: crosswords, word finds, newspaper word puzzles, word games like Scrabble, boggle, etc. Her favorite hobby was reading books, i.e. mysteries, court room dramas, espionage, reality and romance novels.

She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, a Licensed Practical Nurse for 30-plus years working in doctors offices, hospitals, and a nursing home after receiving her LPN training from a doctor in Nebraska (they could do that back then). She also worked in a Russell Stover candy factory for a few years and was a great mom.

BJ was preceded in death by her partner and husband of 67 plus years, Charlie, who passed away in Aug. 2016. They had five children; son, Charlie, Jr., son, Dean, and daughter, Kathy (a twin), three sisters and a brother.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law; Bonnie and Jim Nelson of Homer, and Karel and Gregg Gallagher of Wanatah, Indiana; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
