Longtime Homer resident Thomas C Fica, 70, died Friday, March 8, 2019 at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer.

At his request, no services are planned.

Tom was born Jan. 8, 1949 in Seattle, Washington to Tom and Dorothy Fica. He moved with his family to Idaho, where he graduated from Wood River High School in Hailey, Idaho in 1967. He moved to Alaska in the mid-1970s. He worked as a commercial fisherman in Cook Inlet until becoming a charter boat captain in 1984. He also was a school bus driver beginning in 1994 and he continued driving until retiring in 2018.

Tom had received his Eagle Scout, and it was presented by Gov. Richard Nixon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycling and camping.

His family wrote, “Tom enjoyed time spent with his family, friends and dogs. He will always be remembered for his wry sense of humor, quick wit and generosity.”

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mike Fica.

Tom is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jody Fica; father and mother-in-law, Meryl and Beverly Wolford; brother and sister-in-law, Sid and Dona Wolford; nieces, Lindsey Collins and husband, Josh, and Lauren Wolford, all of Homer, and Emily Fica of Utah; nephews, Vance Wolford and wife, Meagan, of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Zak, David, Joey and Ben Fica, all of Utah; great-nephew, Vance Wolford, Jr. of Lafayette, Louisiana; and many cousins.

The family prefers memorial donations be sent to Homer Animal Friends, P.O. Box 2300, Homer, AK 99603.

Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
