Elaine Plante

Jan 12, 1942 – Feb 19, 2024

Elaine Plante passed away at the age of 82 on February 19, 2024 in San Diego, California. She

was born January 12, 1942 in Northbridge, MA to Laurette and Donatien Lortie, the oldest of two

children (younger brother, Ronald).

Elaine married her high school sweetheart, Charles Plante, and they enjoyed 61 years of

marriage. Elaine and Charlie settled in Stafford Springs, CT and raised their three children there

until 1979 when they moved to Santee, CA where she worked and retired from Delta Airlines.

Employment at Delta afforded her and Charlie many years of worldwide travel and adventures.

(Her children are still discussing who gets her duffle bag with over 50 patches from her travels.

The duffle bag might travel between the children!)

Elaine’s hobbies included traveling (her favorite destinations were Paris and Maui), cooking,

knitting, quilting, shopping, dinner parties, game nights, movies, and spending time with her six

grandchildren. She also volunteered for the Women’s Guild at the Catholic churches she

attended throughout her life.

Elaine and Charlie retired to Zephyrhills, FL in 2005 and enjoyed 9 years of senior living in a

warm, vibrant retirement community where she participated in lots of social activities like the

Red Hat Society, line dancing, water aerobics, dinner parties, and card games with friends. In

2015, she and Charlie moved to Homer, Alaska to be near her youngest daughter’s family.

Though not a fan of the cold weather and lack of shopping opportunities in small-town Homer,

she loved gathering weekly with her quilting friends, going to movies, cooking and baking for

family and friends.

In September 2023, Elaine moved back to the warm climate of Santee, CA to be near to her two

older children and her five other granddaughters. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents,

her brother, Ronald, and her beloved husband, Charles (Jan 2022). She is survived by her

daughter, Cheryl Menard, and son, John (Lori) Plante, both of Santee, CA, and daughter, Colleen

(AlRay) Carroll of Homer, AK, and her six granddaughters (Brooke, Halle, Gabrielle, Monique,

Celine, and Cassidy). A Celebration of Life will be held in Santee, CA in late April. Any donations

in her honor may be made to Hospice of Homer at www.hospiceofhomer.org.
