Frances Elaine Zwonitzer

Frances Elaine Zwonitzer, 70, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

Homer resident Frances Elaine Zwonitzer, 70, was born in Pueblo, Colo. on Jan. 15, 1952, and passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer with her family by her side.

Memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Fran was raised in Colorado, where she was the third of twelve children. She graduated from Bear Creek High School in Lakewood, Colo.

Fran was loved by all she met and was recognized throughout Homer for her willingness to help and care for anyone she met but had become inactive due to physical health and family responsibilities.

During her time in Homer, she had been employed by Haven House, South Peninsula Behavioral Health Services, and Homer Senior Center, and volunteered at Homer Thrift. She moved here from Colorado around 2003, where she was co-owner of the Detour in Denver, Colo. and the Candy Barrel Café in Rifle, Colo.

Fran encouraged all “Keep the Faith” and “Carry on carrying on”, bringing a smile to all with her quick wit. She loved the peace and beautiful nature of Homer. “She was encouraged with her walk with her Lord and faced death with courage.”

She was preceded in death by her mom, Marge Moyer, her dad, Fred Abernathy, Sr., and one sister, Jonni Sue Crosset.

Fran is survived by her son, lan Zwonitzer; granddaughter, Brianna Zwonitzer; siblings, Jacquie Thaute, Homer, AK; Kathy Moore, Golden, Colo.; Linda Abernathy, Homer, AK; Fred Abernathy, Jr., Denver, Colo.; Donna Abernathy, Montrose, Colo.; Tammy Harrow, Centennial, Colo.; Kellie Rarick, Fredrick, Colo.; Steve Moyer, Fredrick, Colo.; Jeff Moyer, Dallas, Texas; and Scott Moyer, Rifle, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
