Jan Errol Cook, known to all as Janosh, was born on December 11, 1943, in Long Island, New York.
He passed from this world on May 5, 2025
After serving in the US Navy in the Vietnam War Janosh met his wife and moved from Monterey, California to a 1,000-acre cattle ranch with 300 cows. He had to ride the fence line every day to check for broken fence to repair. The ranch was in Chinook, WA. Later they moved to Ocean Park, WA when he started Sheetrocking. When Alaska started building the pipeline; he and his sheetrock partner joined the building boom in Anchorage where he was a sheetrock contractor. Janosh, his wife at the time and first three kids moved to Homer while starting a king crab pot manufacturing business in Anchorage and trucking them down to Homer. He had a career in building in Homer.
A loving and devoted father and friend to many. He lived a balanced life, full of learning, giving and truly living. A truly good human being, always looking out for those in need, always compassionate and patient with the least understood. A shining example of courage, diligence and sincerity. Ever ready to bring a smile and inspire courage with an iron sense of humor and contagious enthusiasm for life. He lived life to the fullest and there were very few things he did not experience. This only added to his strong sense of compassion, love and deep understanding. Whether he was taking his children on adventures in the backcountry, golfing, motorcycling, playing in his shop, transforming old things and giving them new life, or simply passing on his extensive knowledge of life to his many loved ones and friends, he did it with grace and a heart full of love. He was a genuine believer in honesty.
In the words of his loving sister Jill, “My brother liked to live life to the full, with courage to take a risk and determination to keep trying.”
Janosh will be sorely missed and survived by his sister Jill, his children Eve Needham, Jacob Cook, Jared Cook, Jordan Cook(Jackinsky), Will Huston; grandchildren Orion Crow, Justice Sky, Mila Stickrod, Rhythm Beckett-Cook, Ahnali Cook, Nakoa Cook, Zion Jackinsky and Antaram Jackinsky.
Celebration of life will be held at Down East Saloon June 25th, 6:00 pm.
