Laurance A. Marshburn

Laurance A. Marshburn was born Feb. 17, 1941 in Mesa, Arizona, to Oscar Ellis Marshburn and Catherine (McKinnon) Marshburn. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1959 and spent 1959-63 at college in Alma, Michigan. He was in medical school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor from 1963-67, becoming an MD in 2967.

He joined the Air Force in 1963. In the summer of 1968, Dr. Marshburn moved to Alaska to Wildwood Air Force Station in Kenai. Separating from the Air Force in 1971, Dr. Marshburn developed a private general practice in Anchorage after which he developed a private family practice in Homer, Alaska.

In 1983, Dr. Marshburn returned to Ohio and completed an anesthesiology residence. He returned to Homer in 1985 and until he moved back to Anchorage in 2000, was an anesthesiologist.

In 1980, Dr. Marshburn married Mary Coffey. He leaves his wife and his children Lori Johnston, Karen Goudey, his son Laurance Marshburn and his stepson Ryan Coffey.

Dr. Marshburn served in the Alaska Air National Guard until retirement. He died of the effects of Parkinson’s Disease and diabetes on June 8 in South Beach, Oregon. There will be no funeral service.
