Marjorie Joan Mangimelli

Longtime Homer resident Mrs. Marjorie Joan Mangimelli, 90, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at South Peninsula Long Term Care.

Marjorie was born July 2, 1922, in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Marjorie loved art, crocheting and knitting, and loved attending and teaching Bible studies. Marjorie was always known for her English accent and lady-like elegance. During World War II she married Jack Philip Mangimelli, a United States military officer. They raised two children and lived in numerous states and overseas in France. Marjorie became a born again Christian in 1955 and lived her life to love and tell others about Jesus. She moved to Homer in 1992 to live near her daughter and family. She lived at Friendship Terrace from 1996-2010, were she became known as the “The Critter Lady,” crocheting and knitting critters and scarves that blessed children and adults locally and around the world. In 2010 Marjorie became a resident at South Peninsula Hospital Long Term Care.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jack Philip Mangimelli Jr., and sisters, Elsie Phillips and Irene Butterworth.

She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Charves, and son in-law, Steve of Homer; granddaughter, Marie Poland; and great-grandson, Alexander Bykov.
