Kachemak Bay Family Planning Clinic was recently awarded a $40,000 grant from Alaska Run for Women to support KBFPC’s breast health community education and outreach on the Kenai Peninsula. Alaska Run for Women is an organization that is committed to supporting and raising funds for breast cancer research and awareness in the state as well as the sponsor of the popular run and walk event held each June to raise money for relevant community projects statewide. KBFPC is proud to be one of eleven 2023 grant recipients.

For 40 years, KBFPC has provided access to comprehensive reproductive health care services in Homer and southern Kenai Peninsula communities, including early detection of breast cancer, regardless of a person’s ability to pay. Early detection includes annual wellness visits, breast exams, referrals for regular screening mammograms, genetic testing, diagnostic services, and support in navigating any next steps. At KBFPC, clients can access reproductive health care at a discounted rate, up to 100%, thanks to a sliding fee scale and community support. KBFPC’s outreach program connects community members with reliable, up-to-date information about breast health and how to reduce breast cancer risk as well as how to access KBFPC’s no- and low-cost services.

KBFPC recognizes that cost is not the only barrier when it comes to early detection of breast cancer and supporting breast health. In late 2022, KBFPC expanded services beyond the flagship clinic in Homer to the central Kenai Peninsula with pop-up clinics and a broader community education campaign so that more people can access comprehensive no- and low-cost reproductive health care, including early detection of breast cancer, without having to drive long distances. In 2024, this expansion will also include sponsored Mobile Mammogram events. KBFPC has been a proud grant recipient of the Alaska Run for Women for 14 years.
