Homer boys, Seward girls runners capture Colony Invite

The Homer boys and Seward girls won titles Saturday at the Colony XC Invitational at Colony High School.
Breyden Nottingham of Mountain City Christian and Hailee Giacobbe of Wasilla took the individual titles.
Homer, a Division II school, continued to place among the top teams in the state. The Mariners tied with Colony with 49 points, but Homer’s No. 6 runner Landon Tinsley finished 21st while Colony’s No. 6 Banyan Smyth was 29th.
The top five for Homer were Johannes Bynagle in third, Caleb Bunker in fourth, Tait Ostrom in eighth, Jai Badajos in 14th and Jude Rozeboom in 20th.
Also from the peninsula at the meet, the SoHi boys were sixth and Kenai was ninth.
Soldotna’s Ollie Dahl also got into the top 10, finishing ninth.
Nottingham won the 5-kilometer race at 16 minutes, 32 seconds, while Palmer’s Bodie Miller was second at 16:41.
The Division II Seward girls also made a major statement by winning the team title. Seward, which has won three straight Division II state titles, scored 59 points, while Colony had 60.
The top five for the Seahawks were Olive Jordan in fifth, Indigo Leslie in sixth, Juniper Ingalls in eighth, Selah Brueckner in 19th and Lucy Bamford in 21st.
Giacobbe won at 19:23, while Homer freshman Ariela Garvey was second at 20:18. The Mariners also had Etta Bynagle in the top 10 in fourth.
Also from the peninsula, Soldotna was third and Homer was sixth.
Tania Boonstra led the Stars by finishing third.
For Kenai, Chase Laker led the boys by taking 30th, while Teresa Fallon led the Kenai girls by taking 23rd.
The top runner for the Seward boys was Sampson Antrim in 32nd.
