Grants help improve Chugachik Island campsites

During the last two years, the Friends of Kachemak Bay State Park and the Kachemak Bay Water Trail Committee have improved the campsites on Chugachik Island by removing hazardous trees and deadfall, weed whacking, constructing an outhouse and tent platform, trail clearing, and delivering picnic tables and a bear proof food locker.

Transportation of volunteers, materials and tools was made possible through a grant from the Homer Foundation, City of Homer Grants Program. Camper and visitor use has increased and been greatly enhanced by these improvements.

A portion of the grant was also used for education and outreach, as well as technical support for our website. Please visit our websites: friendsofkachemakbay.org and kachemakbaywatertrail.org.

We want to give a sincere thank you to the Homer Foundation and the City of Homer Grants Program for their support.
