Best Bets

BEST FISHY BET: Seldovia’s Human-Powered Fishing Derby features three days of fishing in Seldovia Bay and the mouth of Kachemak Bay. Participants strive to catch the largest of any particular fish species. All winners receive a prize, plus will have their name entered in the drawing for the grand prize, a specialty kayak. No motors allowed. Come and give a try at catching a fish from your kayak, row boat, sail boat, paddle board — just don’t fish from the bank, and no motors.

BEST STAGE BET: The Pier One Theatre will present “An Ideal Husband” by Oscar Wilde starting Friday at 7:30 p.m. It is directed by Laura Norton, who is assisted by Rachel Friedlander.

A distinguished dinner party in London. An unexpected — and unwelcome — guest. A threatening secret.

Deceit and lies weave themselves throughout as Wilde pulls the curtain on the hypocrisy of moralistic Victorian society.

With wit and gaiety, Wilde paints a scathing critique of gossips, income gaps, sexist attitudes, and the perils of protecting one’s morals.

Activities will be family-friendly, and we encourage people to come and see the improvements that have been made to Homer’s community museum spaces.
