‘On the Wing’ concert starts at 7 tonight

The Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival “On the Wing: Celebrating Birds and Spring with Poetry and Song” starts at 7 p.m. today at the Homer Theatre.
Featuring life-long Homer musician Sunrise Kilcher-Sjoberg and friends, On the Wing combines original poetry with music, performance art pieces and slides. Poets are invited to present their original bird-related work during the concert.
Proceeds benefit the Shorebird Education and Conservation Fund. Admission is $10. Tickets are on sale at the Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center.
The show features poetry by Jan O’Meara, Nancy Levinson, Carol Dee, Jeanne Steele, Shane Kilcher, Fiona Rich, Daisy Lee Bitter and Maureen Sullivan.
Two Jubilee youth performers are in the show, Elizabeth Prescott and Briea Gregory, who plays an original song.
Also performing this weekend are blues musician Ruthie Foster at 8 p.m. Friday at the Mariner Theatre.Tickets are $15 youth, $25 Homer Council on the Arts members and $35 general.
EJ Simpson does a one-man “Jesus Christ Superstar” at 8 p.m. Friday at AJ’s OldTown Steakhouse. Admission is $5.
