Children of all ages are invited to the 33rd annual Safe and Healthy Kids Fair on Saturday, May 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Homer High School. A collaborative effort by South Peninsula Hospital, South Peninsula Behavioral Health Center and the City of Homer, this free community event focuses on youth safety, health, wellness and fun.

More than 40 booths and stations will provide fun for the whole family at this year’s fair, offering hands-on activities, giveaways, live entertainment and the ever-popular bike rodeo, an April 17 press release from SPH says. Costumes are encouraged for all.

Fair exhibitors will include Sprout, with early childhood support services; Homer Head Start, with school readiness programming information; the Kachemak Bay Lions Club, with vision exams and sunglasses; the Friends of Kachemak Bay State Parks, with water safety information; and many more.

According to the release, kids can bring their bikes and helmets for free inspections and to participate in the bike rodeo managed by the Homer Cycling Club. Helmets are required for participation; free helmets will also be available on-site. Youth may also enter to win a brand new bike, with multiple sizes offered for different age ranges.

Other attractions will include face painting; a fire truck, ambulance and police car; live karaoke; a teddy bear clinic; the Homer Public Library’s B.O.B the Bookmobile; car seat checks; and a free lunch provided by the Homer-Kachemak Bay Rotary Club.
