Halloween happenings in the greater Homer area

Homer, Anchor Point and Ninilchik have multiple events planned through the rest of the month to celebrate autumn and Halloween.

Halloween is almost here, but the festivities have already begun. Local businesses and organizations continue planning multiple events with costumes, treats and fun for community members and kids to enjoy. Keep reading for a non-exhaustive list of activities taking place through the end of the month on the lower Kenai Peninsula.

Homer

Planet Youth Homer presents Boogie Lights Disco on Thursday, Oct. 23 from 4-6 p.m. at the SPARC Rec Center. A nonperishable food drive will also be part of the event, as well as a costume contest and goodie bags. Entry is free; children ages nine and under require an adult chaperone. Attendees are also welcomed to learn more about after-school programming throughout Homer. For questions, contact skontra@spbhs.org.

The Kachemak Bay Running Club will host a Halloween 2K “Boo-to-Brew” fun run/walk on Saturday, Oct. 25 starting at 1 p.m. The start line will be located at Homer Brewing Company, 1411 Lakeshore Drive, and the race will finish at Grace Ridge Brewing Company at 870 Smokey Bay Way. Family activities will follow the 2K race beginning at 3 p.m., including costume contests for dogs and humans, pumpkin carving and more. Entry is free for Kachemak Bay Running Club members; non-members will have a $5 entry fee.

The Homer Chamber of Commerce is bringing back the annual Pioneer Avenue Trick or Treat on Friday, Oct. 31 from 4-6 p.m. Kids and parents are invited to join in on this “great family night.” Local businesses who want to participate and be featured on the walking map can find the sign-up sheet on the 2025 Pioneer Avenue Trick or Treat event Facebook page or on the Events page on the Homer Chamber of Commerce website. Show off your costumes at the Pratt Museum on Oct. 31 from 4-6 p.m. for trick-or-treating at the Harrington Cabin. Stop in the museum during the rest of the month, up to Halloween, to explore the Pratt’s Skeleton Scavenger Hunt.

South Peninsula Hospital will also host trick-or-treating at Long Term Care, 4300 Bartlett Street, Entrance C, on Oct. 31 from 4-6 p.m. Little ones are invited to trick or treat with Long Term Care residents; please enter the hospital through Entrance C and take the elevator or stairs. On Nov. 8 at the annual Rotary Health Fair, kids ages 10 and up are invited to bring in their candy, weigh it and trade it in for great prizes. The candy collected will be donated in holiday care packages.

The Porcupine Theater is hosting their Halloween spectacle on Friday, Oct. 31 starting at 7:30 p.m.. This all-ages event will feature live music by The Pudgies, The Wet Spots and the Ouija Beegees, as well as a costume contest, prizes, food, “immersive” decor and more. Kachemak Bay Recovery will host a Sober Halloween Party at The Living Room on Oct. 31 starting at 9 p.m. The community is invited to join for a night of sober fun, connection and Halloween thrills. This free event will feature a costume contest, where the best individual and couple costumes will win a prize; music; dancing; a “fear factor” contest; and “hauntingly” good vibes. The Living Room is located at 111 W. Pioneer Avenue.

Anchor Point

Western Emergency Services will hold a Halloween Open House on Oct. 31 from 3-5 p.m. at Fire Station 3 on Milo Fritz Avenue. The public is invited to stop by for Halloween treats.

The Anchor Point Community and Senior Center will hold a Trunk or Treat on Oct. 31 from 3-5 p.m. in the center’s parking lot. Set-up begins at 2 p.m. Join for fun, treats and cool costumes. For more information, call 907-235-7786.

The VFW Post 10221 will host their 15th annual Trunk or Treat on Oct. 31 from 4-5 p.m. in the VFW parking lot at 72551 Milo Fritz Avenue. Cars must be ready before 4 p.m., as the event will start promptly. The VFW’s weekly Friday burger night will follow, from 5-7 p.m.

Chapman School will host their annual Community Halloween Carnival on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 5-8 p.m. The community is invited to take part in carnival games, a haunted house, cake walk, Candyland maze, costume contest and more.

Ninilchik

The Kenai Peninsula Fairgrounds will host “Halloween Hoot,” a free indoor trick or treating experience on Oct. 31 from 4-7 p.m. Community members of all ages are invited to bring their costumed selves to the Carol Bock Hall at the fairgrounds for prizes, games, food and fun. This community event was made possible by generous donations and volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering or donating, contact Katie Matthews at 907-398-4207.

This story has been updated to reflect that the Haunted Aspen is no longer taking place on Wednesday, Oct. 29 due to the ongoing federal shutdown. While the crew is hoping to bring this event to the Homer community and support the local canned food drive this fall, new dates have not yet been confirmed.
