Homer Mayor Rachel Lord recognized the contributions of the University of Alaska Kenai Peninsula College’s Adult Education Program in a proclamation she said she was “delighted” to issue Sept. 22, during the last regular Homer City Council meeting.
The proclamation acknowledges the program’s 40 years of service to the community. Established in 1985 by former Kachemak Bay Campus director Carol Swartz, the adult education program annually provides educational and job training to more than 100 area residents in Homer, Anchor Point, Seldovia, Port Graham, Nanwalek, Voznesenka, Razdolna and Kachemak Selo.
“All Alaskans deserve access to opportunities to gain academic, technical and employability skills essential to leading prosperous and productive lives,” Lord said during the meeting, reading aloud from the proclamation text. “These programs contribute valuable services, improving and developing lives through education and bolstering the workforce and economy of the Kenai Peninsula.”
