Alaska’s only state-chartered credit union is set to celebrate the opening of its new branch in Homer.

On Aug. 11, Credit Union 1 (CU1) will host a community grand opening for its new full-service location at 475 East Pioneer Ave., marking an expansion of the credit union’s nearly 50-year history of serving the Kenai Peninsula.

The celebration will welcome residents into the new branch and offer an opportunity to meet the local CU1 team, connect with community partners, and celebrate the newest CU1 location.

The event will include remarks from CU1 president and CEO Mark Burgess, followed by an official ribbon-cutting ceremony and locally catered refreshments. There will also be giveaways and a donation to the Homer Community Food Pantry.

The new branch will bring local and relationship-based financial services directly to Homer, with support for individuals, families, and businesses, and provide consumer banking, mortgage lending, and business solutions for a community shaped by small business, fishing families, seasonal workers, and year-round residents.

“CU1’s decision to expand to Homer was shaped by the community’s vision for thoughtful growth, strong neighborhoods and a thriving local economy,” CU1 stated.

“In the months leading up to the opening, CU1 has met with local businesses, nonprofits and community leaders to better understand Homer’s priorities and identify meaningful ways to become part of the community.”

CU1 added that the branch will be staffed by local employees and reflects CU1’s commitment to investing in the communities it serves.

CU1 has served the Kenai Peninsula since 1979.
