Anchor Point responders douse vehicle fire

In the midst of high fire danger on the Kenai Peninsula, Anchor Point Fire and Emergency Medical Services quickly put out a car fire late Sunday night on the Old Sterling Highway.

According to a press release from Acting Fire Chief Jon Marsh, at about 11:45 p.m., firefighters went to a vehicle that was on fire at the south end of the Old Sterling Highway near Anchor Point. Upon arrival crews put out the fully involved fire in the vehicle. Ten firefighters responded with an engine, tanker, ambulance and a command vehicle. Upon arrival crews were able to quickly extinguish the fully involved vehicle.

In the press release, Marsh wrote that the driver of the vehicle said he had been having mechanical problems when the engine compartment caught fire.

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
