Burning basket build weeks starts Sunday

Build week for the 16th annual Burning Basket, “Radiate: A Basket of Remembrance & Unburdening,” starts at noon Sunday and runs noon-8 p.m. daily through Sept. 14 at Mariner Park on the Homer Spit. Described by artist and organizer Mavis Muller as “a community interactive impermanent art experience,” volunteers are needed to gather materials and help build the basket. The event also includes a labyrinth, drumming and fire-spinning. Materials needed include pencil-diameter alder branches, wild grass, nettles and other plants.

The basket will be presented to Homer at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, for people to interact with it. It will then be lit at sundown. This is a no dogs, no alcohol, family-friendly event. For more information, visit facebook.com/BurningBasketProject or call Muller at 907-299-1478.
