The Mariners varsity football team took down the Kodiak Bears with a 48-8 score in an away conference game on Friday.
Homer finished the regular season 7-1 overall and 4-1 in conference. Kodiak fell to 0-7 overall.
Head coach Justin Zank said Friday evening that the Bears “played us very tough.”
“They were very physical — it was 26-0 at halftime, but it’s not like we had the game well in hand. They beat us physically tonight,” he said.
Zank noted that senior Emelian Melkomukov played well offensively, and that junior Joaquin Jackson, who came back Friday from an injury, ran the ball well.
The Mariners’ previous win against Kenai secured them the No. 2 seed and a home playoff game.
Homer will host Redington on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. for the Division III semifinals.
