A change of plea hearing for Kirby Calderwood has been scheduled for Feb. 5 at 4 p.m. at the Kenai Courthouse.
Calderwood, 35, was indicted in September 2022 for the abduction and murder of Anesha “Duffy” Murnane, who went missing in Homer in October 2019.
During an omnibus, or pretrial, hearing Wednesday afternoon, Calderwood’s defense attorney, Michael Moberly, said he filed a notice of intent to change plea earlier that day. The move follows discussion held at the last pretrial hearing on Dec. 17, in which Moberly asked Judge Kelly Lawson for a continuation to work out the final details of a plea agreement with the prosecution.
No details of a plea agreement were discussed during the brief pretrial hearing.
A sentencing date and location will be discussed during the change of plea hearing, Lawson said. She also noted that while change of plea hearings are typically scheduled in Kenai, the sentencing hearing will “likely” be held in Homer.
Calderwood attended Wednesday’s pretrial hearing telephonically from the Wildwood Pretrial Facility in Kenai, where he remains in custody.
