Galen Wayne Gordon

Galen Wayne Gordon, 90, lifetime resident of Homer, Alaska, passed into glory January 3, 2026, at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
Galen was born to Harris and Thelma (Pratt) Gordon on February 25th, 1935, in Playa Del Ray, California. He joined twin sisters, Joan and Joyce. The following year when he was 16 months old, they moved to Homer, Alaska and within a year another sister, Sherry, joined the family. He started school in a little log building as a five-year-old. Five-yearold students were needed to qualify to get a new school building, the Homer Territorial School. As a Junior in high school, he returned to California where his grandparents still lived and he graduated from Brea High School in 1955. He attended Pasadena College for a couple years where he met his future bride, Arlene Becker. In August 1958 in Homer, Alaska he married his sweetheart while serving in the United States Army at Fort Richardson. They welcomed their first child, Marceline, there. After being discharged from the service, they returned to California where Galen trained to work in construction. Sons, Douglas and David were both born in California. After settling back in Homer in 1966, he felt called to serve at Alaska Village Missions while Arlene taught Kindergarten at local elementary schools. He served at AVM as building director for 30 years and another 20 years on the board of directors. He was active at Christian Community Church as an elder for many years. He and his wife opened their home to many young people over the years. He was a humble faithful servant that desired all to come to know his Savior, Jesus Christ. His family was truly important to him and he was a godly example to them. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and later in life, coffee with the guys, and never lost his sense of humor.
He is preceded in death by his sister Joyce Farnen and her husband Larry Farnen, brothers-in-law Richard lthal and Brantly Edens. He is survived by sisters, Joan Edens (Homer) and Sherry lthal (Ventura, CA), and his faithful wife of 67 years, Arlene. Beloved children: daughter, Marceline Gordon, son Douglas and wife Lesly and their children: Caleb and his wife Hannah, Aaron, Megan and husband Tanner Minogue, Jonathan and Leanne. Also son, David Gordon and wife, Peggy and their children: Benjamin and wife Louissa, Hannah and husband Kevin Zook, Stacy and husband Taylor Hendrix, and Alyssa, and 11 great grandchildren. Also, a multitude of great-nieces and nephews.
Those who wish to remember Galen in a special way may make gifts to Alaska Bible Institute or Christian Community Church in Homer.
Military Interment for immediate family to be held on Saturday, January 17th.
A Celebration of Life Service for friends & family will be held on February 14 at 1 pm at Christian Community Church, 3838 Bartlett St, Homer, Alaska.
