Homer area sports and recreation

Upcoming events:

Football: The first varsity football game of the season will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17 at Homer High School. The game is against Kenai Central High School.

Cross-country running: The Mariner cross-country running team will compete in its first meet of the year by traveling to Kodiak on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 16-17. The team will then face off against other peninsula runners at the Nikiski Class Races on Monday, Aug. 19.

Volleyball: Homer High School will host the Mariner Jamboree, where the Mariner volleyball team will face off against two other schools starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug, 24.

Community recreation:

The following is the schedule for recreation opportunities provided by the City of Homer Community Recreation. The schedule is subject to change with limited notice.

Today

9 a.m. to noon: Youth Activity Club at Homer High School

noon to 2 p.m.: Girls Open Gym: Basketball in the Homer High School Gym

6-8 p.m.: Pickle Ball in the HERC Gym

6-8 p.m.: Weight Room open time at the Homer High School Weight Room

6-8 p.m.: Pick-Up Basketball in the Homer High School Gym

8:30-10 p.m.: Ultimate Frisbee on the Homer High School Turf Field

Friday

6-7 a.m. Morning Basketball in the Homer High School Gym

2-4 p.m.: Open Youth Basketball (7-12 grade) in the Homer High School Gym

3-7:30 p.m.: Martial Arts in the HERC Activity Room

5-8 p.m.: Pickle Ball in the HERC Gym

8:30-10 p.m.: Pick Up Soccer on the Homer High School Turf

Saturday

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Zumba in the HERC Gym

5-8 p.m.: Pickle Ball in the HERC Gym

Sunday, Aug. 4

10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Pickle Ball in the HERC Gym

2-6 p.m.: Board Game Activity in the Homer High School Commons

3:30-6 p.m.: Pick Up Volleyball in the Homer High School Gym

6:30-8:30 p.m.: Pick Up Soccer on the Homer High School Turf
