Homer basketball travels to Southeast, plays home conference game

The host Homer girls and boys basketball teams dropped Class 3A Peninsula Conference games to Grace Christian on Tuesday night.

The girls lost 48-16 to fall to 0-3 in the league and 2-9 overall.

Lawson Alexson paced the Mariners with nine points, while Minadora Reutov had three and Channing Lowney had two.

For the Grizzlies, MJ Van Der Horst had 15, Ella Boerger had 13, Sophie Lentfer had 10, Molly Schild had five, Poppy Wiggers had three and Olivia Jones had two.

The boys lost 53-33 to fall to 1-2 in the league and 1-11 overall.

For Homer, Theo McDonough had 10, Frent Fell had eight, Morgan Techie had four, Mylan Johnson, Einar Pederson and Niko Sulcyznski had three, and Henry Wedvick had two.

Sloan Lentfer pumped in 21 for Homer, while Luke Lentfer, Keller Jedlicka and Tyler Binder had eight, Joshua Ivanoff and Braeden Boerger had three, and Hunter Finch had two.

Both the girls and boys teams had just returned from Southeast Alaska. The Mariners played Sitka on Wednesday and Thursday, and Mt. Edgecumbe on Friday and Saturday.

Homer lost all of the games on the trip.

Wednesday, the Homer girls lost to Sitka 45-30 and the Homer boys lost 54-31.

For the Homer girls, Sydney Shelby paced the squad with 12, while Alexson had 10, Minadora Reutov and Lillie Mae Kuhn had three each, and Gracie Miotke had two.

For Sitka, Naia Nelson had 12, Marina Olney-Miller had 11, Ava Brady had 10, Mecca Goldsberry had six, and Adrianna Denkinger, Michelle Winger and Harlee Nelson each had two.

In the boys game, Lance Seneff pumped in 11 points for Homer, while Techie had eight, Fell had six, Lucas Story had four and Sulczynski had two.

For Sitka, Dylan Crenna had 13, Trey Demmert had 10, Dezi Olney-Miller had nine, Trey Johnson had seven, Jaden Costello had five, Angelo Elefante had four, and Grady Smith, Matthew Leach and Ben Turner each had two.

Thursday, the Homer girls lost 31-16 and the Homer boys lost 54-29.

For the girls, Reutov paced the Mariners with six points, while Shelby had three, Emily Owens, Bethany Engebretsen and Alexson had two, and Lillie Mae Kuhn had one.

For Sitka, Nelson and Brady had 12, Marina Olney-Miller had four, Adrianna Denkinger had two and Winger had one.

Friday, the Homer girls lost to Mt. Edgecumbe 50-20, while the Homer boys lost 67-32.

For the Homer girls, Minadora Reutov had eight, Bethany Engebretsen had six, Sydney Shelby had four and Lawson Alexson had two.

For Mt. Edgecumbe, Carliese O’Brien had 17, Tessa Anderson had 13, Bessie Williams had six, Bethany Akaran and Candance Dull each had four, and Genneva Kamkoff and Zenaida Andrew each had two.

Saturday, the Homer girls lost 50-44, while the boys lost 73-44.

The Homer girls were close all the way, trailing 18-14 after a quarter, 25-21 after two quarters and tying the game at 31 headed to the final quarter.

Reutov and Alexson each had 10 for Homer, while Shelby had nine, Bethany Engebretsen had six, Lillie Mae Kuhn had five and Hannah Stonorov had four.

For the Braves, O’Brien had 16, Katerine Jones and Williams had 11, Dull had four, Anderson had three, Tahira Akaran and Brooke Markoff had two, and Bethany Akaran had one.
