Kachemak Swim Club attends Fairbanks championship meet

Five Kachemak Swim Club athletes competed earlier this month in the Alaska Swimming Age Group Championships in Fairbanks. Three hundred swimmers competed in multiple events throughout the meet, which took place Feb. 14-16.

“This crew demonstrated tenacity and teamwork at the highest level I have seen this season,” coach Jaime Roth said in an email to the Homer News.

“Every swimmer was above 75 percent in achieving best times in their events, and their perseverance and support for each other serves as an inspiration to the rest of their team.”

According to Roth, swimmers raced against others their age, with the exception of Anika Sundheim, who competed in a group composed of those 10 and under.

The Kachemak Swim Club is a year-round, supervised aquatics program and competitive swim team composed of Homer athletes, aged 5-18. They are currently raising money for the program through their annual Swim-a-Thon, the club’s largest fundraiser.

As of Sunday morning, the team had raised around 26% of their goal. The Swim-a-Thon will be held March 21 at 4 p.m. at the Kate Kuhns Aquatic Center.
