Mariner alums reunite in hockey game

In a game that had the spirit of a friendly evening of pond hockey, about 20 former Homer High School students came together last Friday at the Kevin Bell Ice Arena for the annual Alumni and Alumnae Hockey Game.

Sponsored by the Homer Hockey Association, the alums separated into teams wearing blue or gold jerseys. Blue dominated the night, quickly racking up goals and winning with a final score of 4-1.

Mariners from classes as recent as 2018 and older braved a Homer Spit storm to play, including one alumna, Mychaela Pita, class of 2018.

“It was really fun … healthy and fun,” said Homer Hockey Association board member Melanie Dufour.

The reunion also brought together another element of Homer’s powerhouse hockey community: hockey parents.

“Still a hockey mom,” Dufour said. “There were a lot of us there. It was fun to see each other.”
