McDonough, Morrison win at Big C Relays

The Soldotna, Homer and Cook Inlet Academy track and field teams were among the 26 squads that opened up their seasons Friday and Saturday at the Russ Edwards Big C Relays at The Dome in Anchorage.

Soldotna’s Katelyn Morrison and Homer’s Seamus McDonough led the peninsula with victories.

Morrison won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 1 inch. McDonough won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9 minutes, 43.00 seconds.

Soldotna had multiple other athletes place in the top six.

For the boys, James Innes was sixth in the 400 at 53.89, Wyatt Faircloth was fifth in the 300 hurdles at 44.26, the 1,600 relay of Innes, Faircloth, Jeren Nash and Finnley Loop was fifth in 3:43:41, the sprint medley relay of Nash, Andon Wolverton, Coy Babcock and Innes was fifth in 1:43.34, the Swedish relay of Faircloth, Nash, Landon Hinds and Wesley Johnson was sixth in 2:25.19, Kevin Steger was second in the shot put at 46—11.75 and Luke Miller was fifth in the shot put at 42—6.25.

For the girls, Kaytlin McAnelly competed in the pentathlon and finished fifth with 2,857 points. McAnelly was sixth in the pentathlon 100 at 14.41, second in the pentathlon 800 at 2:44.26, fourth in the pentathlon 300 hurdles at 53.37, third in the pentathlon shot put at 26—3 and sixth in the pentathlon high jump at 4—2.

Also for the SoHi girls, Annie Burns was sixth in the 400 at 1:04.24, Angelina Chavarria was fifth in the 100 hurdles at 17.83, Anaulie Sedivy was second in the 300 hurdles at 50.27, the 400 relay of Gracie Bras, Telotha Braden, Emma Glassmaker and Delaney Smith was fifth at 54.96, the 1,600 relay of Burns, Sedivy, Sophia Jedlicki and Sasha Brott was third in 4:25.20, the sprint medley relay of Smith, Glassmaker, Mandi Sisley and Laurel Johnson was fifth in 2:06.56, the sprint medley relay of Bras, Glassmaker, Burns and Jedlicki was third in 4:40.20, the distance medley relay of Tania Boonstra, Sasha Brott, Jedlicki and Burns was second in 13:49.40, and Morrison was third in the long jump at 15—3.

For the Homer boys, McDonough also was sixth in the 800 at 2:05.30 and the sprint medley relay of Lukyan Dax, Jonah Mershon, Lance Seneff and McDonough was third in 3:54.94.

For the Homer girls, Gracie Miotke was third in the 300 hurdles at 50.32.
