Nikiski boys, Homer girls notch wins

The host Nikiski boys basketball team notched a 55-53 over Homer on Tuesday in Class 3A Peninsula Conference action. The Bulldogs are 1-4 in the league and 4-15 overall, while the Mariners are 2-3 and 3-16.

Nikiski led 15-13 after the first quarter, 26-21 at the half and 41-30 after three quarters. Homer won the final quarter 23-14, but it was not enough to catch Nikiski.

For Nikiski, Drew Handley had 18, Braeden Porter had 11, Seth Payne had 10, Charlie Chamberlain had nine and David Weathers had seven.

For Homer, Morgan Techie had 14, Lance Seneff and Lucas Story had 12, Einar Pederson had eight, Trent Fell had four and Spencer Dye had three.

Homer girls 49, Nikiski 31

The visiting Mariners moved to 2-3 in the Class 3A Peninsula Conference and 7-12 overall by dropping the Bulldogs to 1-4 and 7-13.

For Homer, Sydney Shelby had 15, Minadora Reutov had 13, Lawson Alexson had eight, Bethany Engebretsen had five, Channing Lowney and Gracie Miotke had two and Hannah Stonorov had one.

For Nikiski, Savanna Stock had nine, Avery White, Avery Ellis, Kailey Stynsberg and Maggie Grenier had four, and Shelby Burman, Ember Nelson and Ashlynne Playle had two.

CIA boys 76, Holy Rosary 45

The host Eagles moved to 18-2 overall with the nonconference victory.

For the CIA boys, Brady Baeten had 17, Ian McGarry had 16, Abraham Henderson had 11, Alek McGarry and Owen Braband had eight, Jonas Oyoumick and Austin Sorhus had five, Dmitry Marlowe had three, Hyrum Henderson had two and Trent Waller had one.

For Holy Rosary, Miles Minnery had 17, Damian Fournier and Sebastian Fournier had seven, Erik Helzer had five, Shawn Cooley had four, Greg Biegel had three and Zachaeus Zipay had two.

Kenai JV girls 41, Ninilchik 25

After beating Homer’s C team 27-23 on Monday, the Wolverines fell to Kenai’s JV at Kenai to fall to 5-14 overall.

Against Kenai, Riley Tucker pumped in 18 for Ninilchik, while Rylee Lemons had three, and Lily Berger and Audrey Acrey each had two.

For the Kardinals, Evelyn Cooper had 16, Willow Graham had eight, Maddie Malone had five, Simone Watts had four, McKenzie Spence had three, Katie Johnson and Ellsi Miller each had two, and Allie Hutchins had one.
